Purity and light is where we will all be someday. Not because it's the way to go, although it is, but because it's a natural outgrowth of our expanding universe. We grow emotionally and spiritually in much the same way that we evolve physically. We streamline our hearts and minds and exclude any excess baggage as we grow, which we might define as drama. We will always flow into that which is life-saving, not only for us, personally, but for our species and our world as a whole. Whatever is not good for the Earth will be eliminated. Whatever is not good for us will be excluded, including bad behaviors.

To streamline ourselves emotionally and spiritually is not an easy task for anyone. Being Catholic, I remember coming out of the confessional on Saturdays and feeling so clean; like my sins were wiped away. I always wanted to have that clean feeling on an emotional level but soon I would go back to being a kid, doing all of the kid-type things that drive parents crazy.

Now, I have always sought to be of a higher order spiritually and behaviorally. It is a life-time quest and I continue to learn from day to day. We are not perfect beings. If we were, we wouldn't be living on Earth, which is a classroom. It is a classroom that teaches us, through our own suffering how to be better people. People who do evil and who don't speak out against evil act like they are going to live eternally and that there is no retribution. The retribution comes from ourselves and not necessarily from any outside force. In time, if the world doesn't punish you for lust, gluttony, greed, avarice, envy, jealousy, and hatred, then your own mind and body will punish you. This is simply a fact and one that will come to you in time. Evil-doers don't want to believe this, but it doesn't make it any less true.

In order to avoid doing evil, you must avoid feeling hurt in any way. Don't take things personally. Realize that others aren't perfect and that they make errors, too. It's not that anyone wants to purposely hurt your feelings, unless they are psychos and are in the Ted Bundy club. Usually, most normal people accidentally hurt others because of their own fears and insecurities.

You don't have to perfect. All you have to do is work on being kind, respectful, and compassionate towards others. That's not so hard; is it?

Halloween, from the old english word, Eallra Hālgena, first began thousands of years ago when our western european ancesters marked the changing seasons with awe and gratitude, and can be traced back to the time of Christ and beyond. It was celebrated as the dying season and was a time set aside to honor loved ones, relatives and ancesters who had passed on.

Pagans would celebrate death and the final harvest of the growing season with bonfires, feasts, and celebrations and with prophecy and astral projection. It was believed that during Samhein (Halloween) "the veil is the thinnest." This meant that their perceptions and perceptual abilities were enhanced during this time, which made it easier to move between dimensions. The down-side of this gift was that the easy, inter-dimensional access would also make it possible for both benevolent and malevolent spirits to enter the earthly realm. In order to fool the undead and avoid harm, revelers would dress themselves up as malevolent spirits. The Druids seem to have been the high priests of this ancient, european, nature religion, and used this mysterious time of the year for their magical and mystical endeavers, as well.

In Ancient times, Halloween was called Samhein (pronounced sow-wen) meaning "summer's end" from the old irish, or Calen Gaeaf (pronounced Calin Geyf) from the old english, and was celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd. Chaos was allowed to rule over the celebrations in order to relieve the stress of the harvest season, and to help to alleviate the fear associated with the dark, ominous skies and the rising wind, precipatation and cold that was beginning to set in. It was a very sacred celebration that brought some diversion away from the potentiality of death and sickness that winter could bring.
　
In the ninth century, Halloween evolved into a Christian Holiday known as, All Hallows Day, and was ushered in by the Roman Church. The Church sent Christian missionaries out into Pagan cultures to unite Pagan beliefs with Christian beliefs. Pagans, at the time, were appalled at the prospect of being forced to change their belief systems, which revolved around nature, into Christian belief systems. The Roman, Christian Hierarchy feared rebellion and uprisings by the Pagans and so it was avoided by incorporating Pagan customs into Christian beliefs.
　
It is interesting to note that the first Pagan auto-de-fe (witch burning) happened during the middle ages (12th century) and as time progressed, Pagans could be executed on the flimsiest of evidence. Even helping others, or mixing and administering medicinal herbs could be reason enough to be burned alive because the Roman Church wanted all the glory for itself.

Common Pagan women, who were the healers, counselors and midwives of that time, were considered to be the enemy of the Roman Church. The women who were executed for their customs, beliefs and knowledge number in the millions over the course of at least 1,000 years and are always honored by modern day Pagans during Samhein. Atrocities are still being committed against Pagans world-wide, including in the United States, by misguided Christian followers and fearful and power-hungry Christian leaders.
　
Although I don't count myself amongst any spiritual organizations, neither Pagan, Christian, nor any others, I have decided to play it safe and dress up as a demon, just in case any malevolent spirits break on through. Happy Samhein and have fun.

Psychic Vampirism in the Laboratory.

Joe H. Slate, Ph.D. is a professor, psychologist, and author of several books, including Psychic Vampires: Protection from Energy Predators and Parasites. He is the founder of the International Parapsychology Research Foundation and the Psychology Research Institute. He is a frequent lectures and has appeared on several TV programs. His books are available throughout the U.S. and in other languages around the world. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year at Athens State University.

While I (Joe Slate) was a Professor of Psychology at Athens State College (now University) I led a study investigating the human energy system. The year-long study, which was funded by the U.S. Army Missile Research and Development Command, and identified several important characteristics of that system.

Of particular interest was the finding that the physical body's central energizing core and its surrounding energy field, commonly called the aura, are each influenced by the presence of others. Using aura photography along with visual observations of the aura, the study found that the auras of couples whose interactions were positive tended to complement and energize each other, with each aura becoming brighter and more expansive. Conversely, negative interactions tended to constrict the aura and actually induce a state of mental and physical fatigue. When constrictions occurred in the aura, intellectual functions became slower, short-term memory declined, and physical strength decreased by as much as 50 percent

A later study funded by the Parapsychology Foundation of New York not only confirmed the findings of our earlier research, it showed that certain persons were highly skilled at deliberately tapping into and directly feeding upon the aura of others.

By draining energy from another person's aura, these so-called psychic vampires not only deplete the aura's energy resources, they interrupt the capacity of the aura's central core to generate new energy, particularly when the interaction is prolonged.

Although the human energy system is indestructible--it is literally the soul of our being--its capacity to generate the energy required for daily living can become severely impaired. Long-term, continuous psychic vampire attacks can have devastating consequences that reach far beyond damage to the energy system.

Like the host victims of their blood-sucking counterparts, victims of recurring psychic vampire assaults can become--dare I say--psychic vampires themselves in a desperate effort to replenish their lost supply of energy.

Protection Techniques.

Fortunately, highly effective strategies are now available to prevent a psychic vampire attack, or once it's underway, to promptly end it. These laboratory tested strategies can also promote healing and repair damage to the energy system resulting from long-term vampire assaults. They can even be used effectively by psychic vampires provided they are motivated to overcome their energy addiction.

One of the most effective protection procedures known is the Finger Interlock Technique. Developed in our labs, this technique is easy to implement, and its effects are instant.

To begin this technique, simply bring together the tips of your thumb and middle finger of each hand to form two circles. Then, bring your hands together to form interlocking circles while envisioning your body enveloped in a bright sphere of impenetrable energy.

Finally, relax your hands and simply affirm, "I am now energized and fully protected." This simple, inconspicuous technique requires only seconds and can be used almost any time or place. With practice, you can use the finger interlock gesture alone as a cue to instantly activate the effects of the full procedure.

The Finger Interlock Technique has many other useful applications. Overcoming stage fight, improving memory, and promoting positive social interactions are all within its scope. You can use the technique to induce instant relaxation during important examinations, public presentations, and conferences, to list but a few of its many applications. A former student, now a practicing attorney, attributes his admission to law school largely to his use of the technique during the entrance exam.

Symptoms of Psychic Attack

- The leakiness and declining aura feelings are the major symptoms of psychic attacks (vampires).
- Wooziness and exhaustion are the most common signs of psychic vampires where they could be very attacking upon anyone else.
- Lack of energy is the indication of psychic vampires where it can suck him or her in most blistering manner where no body could save from it.
- Muscle tension is the sign of psychic attack.
- Psychic perplexity is the indication of vampires where they suck the energies of others.
- Chronic headache is the sign of psychic vampire.
- Constant weariness and low energy shows the indications of psychic vampires.
- Lack of sleeping or snoozing represents the psychic attacks.
- Irritation, hypertension and chronic impatience come in psychic vampires.
- When there is depression in psychic vampires, feel the signs of psychic vampire arrival at any time.
- Physical ailment is the symptoms of psychic vampire.

Psychic Vampires' Code of Ethics

Many Psychic Vampires have a strict code of ethics that they adhere to with regards to the who's and how's of draining the energy from others. According to these ethics, a psychic vampire must ask if they can take energy from people. However, this is not always the case.

Permission to give or take does not need to be granted on a conscious individualized basis. It comes from an underlying attitude about giving and taking.

Those who give selflessly without balance can become doormats or martyrs or may "kill with kindness."

Those who take without thought are often very kind people who have learned inappropriate ways to get energy. They may also be obviously selfish and thoughtless of others. These are examples of opposite ends of the spectrum. Most of us sit somewhere closer to the middle.

The giver's attitude of willingness creates an opening that enables a taker to connect to the giver. Connecting to each other, although generally unseen, literally creates a physical connection that we just do not see with the naked eye. The Hunas have spoken about these connecting "cords" for centuries.

Those we mistakenly call vampires are not necessarily bad people. For instance a friend once connected to me very deeply while we were working on an intense project together. Eventually the energy being drained from me made me ill physically.

If you suspect you are a giver - you must become clear that you play a role in the experience and you are no longer willing to do so. Say firmly and clearly aloud, "No one else can have my energy."

If you are a taker you must become clear you are no longer willing to play that role. Say firmly and clearly aloud, "I now receive all the energy I need in healthy ways. Energy comes to me easily from the earth, from the air, from Divine intelligence. It is everywhere and I willingly accept it from healthy places and in healthy ways. I always have all the energy I need."

Psychic Vampirism and Targeted Individuals

On a much broader scale, psychic vampirism can occur in a vicious, collective form as sometimes seen among organizations that feed on prejudice and hate, or corporations that blatantly vampirize their employees through deception and greed.

Narcotics trafficking, organized crime, and so-called "ethnic cleansing" along with discrimination based on age, race, gender, or sexual orientation are examples of collective psychic vampirism on an alarming scale.

In its most widespread collective form, psychic vampirism can exist at a global level. Reckless pollution of the environment, irresponsible disregard for endangered species, and exploitation of the globe's natural resources are examples of global vampirism that affects everyone and literally puts the future of the planet at risk.

Sucking Your Own Energy

You know how after a long cry or an emotionally negative experience you feel exhausted? This are examples of sucking your own energy.

It may seem hand to fathom, but psychic vampirism can occur in a self-contained, parasitic form that turns inward to feed upon oneself. In that internal form, the person ironically becomes both vampire and victim. Examples are such flagrant consumers of our energies as phobias, obsessions, and compulsions that can hover over us like monsters waiting to devour us.

Most psychic vampires have an instinctive ability to feed over long distances. Long-distance feeding, however, requires a significant expenditure of energy on the part of psychic vampires, who must extend tendrils of their own energy to connect with their target.

In addition to the initial expenditure of energy involved in extending this tendril, the distance itself has an impact on the exchange, such that the greater the distance being covered, the more energy is lost along the way. This is why the majority of psychic vampires find long-distant feeding both frustrating and inefficient, as it first requires the vampires to have enough energy to initiate contact, and even after such effort, the pay-off is not worth it in the end.

Feeding directly in a person-to-person exchange provides a much deeper connection, allowing for a more fulfilling and efficient energy exchange. Few vampires can do more than surface feed when feeding over a distance, skimming the most superficial levels of a person's energy.

Deep feeding, a technique that allows psychic vampires to penetrate to the essential core of a person, where the energy is most intense and concentrated, is something that only rare individuals can accomplish over a distance. True deep feeding, which often involves an exchange not just of energy but of thoughts, emotions, and remembered material, almost always occurs solely between two people who are in direct physical contact with one another.

Did you know that New York has at least 1,000 self-identified vampires? “If we take that as a sample,” says Michelle Belanger, a psychic vampire and author of The Psychic Vampire Codex, “it’s less than 1 percent, but we’d still have tens of thousands worldwide.”

It is hard to verify this, and each vampire might have a different definition of what it means to be vampirical. In Georgia, the Atlanta Vampire Alliance and its research arm, Suscitatio Enterprises LLC, spent two years collecting answers from more than 700 vampires answering hundreds of survey questions. From this we learn they:

1. Have much higher rates of asthma, migraines and anemia than normal humans.
2. Most commonly live in California, followed by Georgia, Texas, New York and Ohio.
3. Are an average age of 28.

Also, only 17 percent of vampires drink blood; 31 percent are solely psychic, and the rest are hybrids.

You know how you're always hearing about how if you display kindness it's good karma and that it will eventually pay off? Well apparently, it pays off immediately.

Research shows that when we are kind to others it boosts our immune systems and alleviates depression, thereby staving off disease. Being kind has even been linked to suppressing cancer. So, I assume that the inverse is also true. That is, being purposefully unkind weakens our immune systems, which causes mental and physical illnesses.

Several scientists named Luk, Levy, and Pearsall have documented this phenomenon, in separate correlations using similar but distinct methods. In research involving thousands of subjects, statistical evidence showed time and time again that the giver of kindness, the receiver of kindness and the on-lookers of a kind act all experienced the same level of white blood cell increases in the body and endorphin increases in the brain (a feel-good chemical that alleviates depression).

So, what do kind people do? They show tolerance for the shortcomings of others; they are able to forgive and blow off minor and major, inadvertant and purposeful slights and present magnanamous behavior in the face of these. They are able to forgive easily and apologize just as easily. They are able to display kindness to anyone and especially to those who have an integral part in their lives.

Is this really that difficult? Not really. When you over-come your unnatural inclinations just once and do what is right, the hard part is over. From then on, it's all downhill.

So, do the whole world a favor and save your own life in the process. Show a little tenderness.

CARLOS CASTENEDA-CON ARTIST OR PROPHET

Carlos Castaneda, Con-Artist or Prophet?

He's been dead for 9 years now and the stories keep coming in and his infamy continues to grow. He's been accused of academic misrepresentation, plagiarism, severe mental cruelty, lying about his background (age, homeland, military service, family), being a hoaxster, being a slut, and being an all-round disreputable individual.

On the other hand, he was deemed, "Godfather of the New Age," and "a compelling writer," who wrote "beautifully lucid books that had a narrative power unmatched in other anthropological studies" by Time Magazine, "one of the most profound and influential thinkers of the century," by Deepak Chopra, and a "neolithic sage" by Life Magazine. His admirers included John Lennon, William Burroughs, Federico Fellini and Jim Morrison.

Many people have worked tirelessly to debunk and destroy the Castaneda mystique including Richard DeMille ( son of the famous director), Weston Labarre (a foremost authority on Native American peyote ceremonies), Joyce Carol Oates, and even Time Magazine, who, though originally had nothing but praise for Castaneda, reversed itself calling him a liar and a "hoaxster."

Many of Castaneda's own students have told tales of Castaneda's cruelty and abuse.

I wonder, probably as you do, how someone as spiritually enlightened as Castaneda seemed to be could have behaved in such a despicable manner? Castaneda's spiritual mentor, Don Juan, often pointed out that Castaneda was slow, stupid, too egotistical, and an all-round screwed up guy. Don Juan was very puzzled about why Spirit would select Carlos Castaneda to teach such sacred mysteries to. Why? Because Castaneda was chosen to be a messenger and nothing else. He was not a saint. His great gift was that he could convey tricky information in a way that could be understood by millions. That would be the logical explanation.

Myself and millions of others who have read and re-read Castaneda's books, often just for the pure entertainment value therein, can tell you that while his stories about being a sorcerer's apprentice of a Yaqui Indian brujo named Don Juan may be fictional, the wisdom inherent in his books is real. Myself and many others who have experimented with the exercises described in the Castaneda books have had some genuine success. This success may be attributed to what I will call, the believability factor.

(I will define the believability factor as, the pivotal element needed to actualize desire, will, and imagination into reality. That is, whatever you believe is true will become true and, indeed, is true as soon as you believe it. If you truly believe, for example, that prayer will cure your grandfather, your grandfather has a better chance of recovering. If you believe you will be wealthy, you will become so, etc.)

Even if Castaneda had stolen ideas from truly spiritually, enlightened others in order to write a fantasy novel, nothing that I have ever read on the subject has been as successful in conveying heartfelt spirituality with hysterical humor, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and "just add water" instructions as Castaneda's stories have. Besides, most of our great spiritual leaders often lean heavily or entirely upon the teachings of their predessors.

After all, Jesus himself is famous for telling parables and stories that he used to convey his teachings. For example, Jesus tells a story about meeting Satan in the mountains during a spiritual retreat during which time he fasted, meditated, and prayed. In Jesus' story, Satan magically transports them both to several different places, each one miles from the other, all the while trying to convince Jesus to join forces with him. Jesus had this vision under extreme physical and psychological stress, no doubt, and so the whole experience probably never happened, at least not in the world as we know it; though it could have happened in a "separate reality."

Carlos Castaneda himself always said that it wasn't about him and that it was never about him. He didn't want people focusing on him. He always said that it was about the spiritual knowledge in his books and that everyone should be focusing on that. Looks like he didn't get his wish because now Casteneda is being focused on and Castaneda's reputation has been largely trashed. His books, and the wisdom inherent within, however, continues to sell to a new generation of people all over the world.

We will never really know if Castaneda really did experience what he claimed that he did in the Sonoran Deserts of Mexico and in the bus depot of Nogales, Arizona. For me, personally, Don Juan, Genero, Carlos, Pablito, Katrina, and all of the other characters in his books live on, and what they taught me is not an illusion. It is as real as you are, sitting there reading this blog, and that's a loaded statement.

Contemplating Seth

Seth is a non-physical entity who, supposedly, spoke through a woman named Jane Roberts. Jane acted as a medium for Seth. You have been given perhaps the most awesome gift of all: the ability to project your thoughts outward into physical form.

Your scientists are finally learning what philosophers have known for centuries...that mind can influence matter. They still have to discover the fact that mind creates and forms matter.

Your body is not beautiful or ugly, healthy or deformed, swift or slow simply because this is the kind of body that was thrust upon you indiscriminately at birth. Instead your physical form, your corporeal personal environment, is the physical materialization of your own thoughts, emotions, and interpretations.

Quite literally, the "inner self" forms the body by magically transforming thoughts and emotions into physical counterparts. You grow the body. Its condition perfectly mirrors your subjective state at any given time. Using atoms and molecules, you build your body, forming basic elements into a form that you call your own.

You do not realize that you create your larger environment and the physical world as you know it by propelling your thoughts and emotions into matter; a breakthrough into three-dimensional life. The inner self, therefore, individually and en masse, sends its psychic energy out, forming tentacles that coalesce into form.

Each emotion and thought has its own electromagnetic reality, completely unique. It is highly equipped to combine with certain other thoughts and emotions...three-dimensional objects are formed in somewhat the same way that the images you see on your television screen are formed...And if you are not tuned into that particular frequency, you will not perceive the physical objects at all.

Each of you act as transformers, unconsciously, automatically transforming highly sophisticated electromagnetic units (emotion, thought) into physical objects. The intensity (of the thought/emotion) determines both the strength and the permanency of the physical image into which the thought or emotion will be materialized.

Now, whenever you think emotionally of another person, you send out a counterpart of yourself, beneath the intensity of matter, but a definite form.

You are so focused in your roles...; so intrigued by the reality that you have created, so entranced by the problems, challenges, hopes, and sorrows of your particular roles that you have forgotten they are of your own creation...there are other plays going on simultaneously, in which you also have a part to play. These have their own scenery, their own props. They take place in different periods of time. One may be called "Life in the Twelfth Century, A.D." (etc.)

The plays seem to be taking place one before the other, and so these communications seem to intensify the false idea that time is a series of moments, passing in a single line from some inconceivable beginning to some equally inconceivable end. This leads you to think in terms of a very limited progress, both in individual terms and in terms of your species as a whole.

Progress has nothing to do with time...but with psychic and spiritual focus...It is not correct, therefore, to suppose that your actions in this life are caused by a previous existence, or that you are being punished in this life for crimes in a past one. The lives are simultaneous.

Now: You are learning to be cocreators. You are learning to be gods as you now understand the term.

You will be bound to those you love and those you hate though you will learn to release and lose and dissipate the hatred. You will learn to use even hatred creatively and to turn it to the higher ends, to transform it finally into love.

Other kinds of consciousness coexist within the same "space" that your world inhabits. They do not perceive your physical objects, for their reality is composed of a different camouflage structure. You do not perceive them, and generally speaking they do not perceive you...however...various points of your realities can and do coincide,...

There are four absolute coordinate points that intersect all realities...these also act as channels through which energy flows, and as warps...from one reality to another. They also act as transformers, and provide much of the generating energy that makes creation continuous...

Your space is filled with these subordinate points...When a thought or emotion attains a certain intensity, it automatically attracts the power of one of these subordinate points...

These coordinate points-absolute, main, or subordinate-represent accumulations or traces of pure energy...yet this energy must be activated. It is dormant until then-and it can't be activated physically.

The subordinate points...affect your daily concerns. There are better places than others to build houses....where health and vitality are strengthened...Some people can sense such neighborhoods instinctively...

The intensity of a feeling or thought or mental image is, therefore, the important element in determining its subsequent physical materialization.

Briefly, in your own country, the West Coast, portions of the East Coast, Utah, the Great Lakes, the Chicago area, the Minneapolis area, and some other southwestern areas, are in the neighborhoods of excellent coordinate activity...Materialization will quickly appear....for both constructive and destructive elements are high.

Now, through very intense emotional focus you can create a form, and project it to another person who may then perceive it.

A soul is not something you have. It is what you are.

Your present personality as you think of it is indeed "indelible," and continues after death to grow and develop.

After death...you are quite free perceptively. The future appears as clearly as the past. Even this is highly complicated, however, for there is not just one past.

There is no separate, indivisible specific point of death. Life is a state of becoming, and death is a part of this process of becoming.

You are alive now....amid a debris of dead and dying cells; alive while the atoms and molecules of your body die and are reborn.

Now: For those of you who are lazy I can offer no hope: death will not bring you an eternal resting place. You may rest, if this is your wish, for awhile. Not only must you use your abilities after death, however, but you must face up to yourself for those that you did not use during your previous existence.

Now, you may or may not be greeted by friends or relatives immediately following death. Your true feeling toward relatives who are also dead will be known to you and to them. There is no hypocrisy. You do not pretend to love a parent who did little to earn your respect or love. Telepathy operates without distortion. You may find that someone you considered merely an enemy actually deserved your love and respect, for example, and you will treat him accordingly.
You will not be automatically wise (after death) if you were not so before. You examine the fabric of the existence you have left, and you learn to understand how your experiences were the result of your own thoughts and emotions and how these affected others...

Forget the cringing selves that you sometimes are and remember, instead, the magic essence of your own being that sings even now through your fingertips. That is the reality which you are seeking. Experience it fully. Do you need an old dead thing like me to tell you what life is? I should be ashamed.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.
His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live.
"He doesn't make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die," said Dr. David Dosa in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

ARE OUIJA BOARDS DANGEROUS?

Are Ouija Boards dangerous? Yes!!! Once my sister and I were sparring over something or other. I was 10 years old and she was 8. She always use to play quietly and act innocent when my parents were around but was extremely annoying when they weren't. Anyway, she made me so angry that I picked up the nearest toy, which was the dreaded Ouija Board, and threw it in her direction. It was a playful toss and I didn't mean to hurt her, but it smacked her in the head in just the wrong way and gave her the biggest bump that I had ever seen. My parents grounded me for 2 weeks for that one. So you see, Ouija Boards can be very dangerous.

When I was a kid Ouija Boards were very popular with the pre-adolescent, adolescent, and teen-age girls. It was marketed as a game and was considered a toy. I think I got mine as a birthday present when I was 16 yrs. Old. There were probably millions of girls worldwide who had an Ouija Board. Satan was at work here. Obviously, Satan had sent legions of demons to the earth in the guise of adolescent females who became a gateway to our plane from the dark netherworld.

Get real please. Out of all of the times I used the board along with all of the times that my friends used their boards, never once did any of us have any inter-dimensional beings, Satanic or otherwise, enter our plane. In fact, none of us, to my knowledge, ever even got any kind of a clear message from anyone, living or dead.

Now, there are a lot of highly imaginative people in the world and sometimes I think their imaginations run over-time. I am not saying that it isn't possible to make some kind of contact with other dimensions. What I am saying is that contact like that can be made through any kind of spiritual pursuit, even praying, if it's even possible at all. As far as I know, many people who claim to be possessed by demons are of Christian faiths just as much as they are of other faiths and all of them have a mental disorder, clinically.

So, I am going to come right out and tell you get your Ouija Boards out of the trash and let your daughters play with them if they want to. It could sharpen their intuitive skills. Just don't let them use them as projectile weapons and everything should be okay.

VOODOO, HUH? DOES IT WORK?

A local TV news station in Florida (local 6) carried the following story:

"A burned-looking voodoo doll recently appeared in the yard of Commissioner Zenaida Denizac.A photo of Denizac's face was taped to the doll's head and several pins were stuck in its body. Since the discovery, the sheriff's office has increased its presence outside of Denizac's home and those of other commissioners over the weekend."

Voodoo, huh? Does it work? Is it possible to whammy someone off the face of the earth? NO! Not even quantum physics can support this. For one thing, even if someone had that kind of mind power, and we haven't been able to scientifically prove that anyone has, that person would have to "over-think" everyone who wants the victim well and healthy.

It's like a football game. Both teams want to win so much that they can imagine it vividly, taste it, see it in their mind's eye, etc., yet only one team will win and it's probably the team that is the most talented and has the best coaches and managers. It has nothing to do with the team that prays the hardest, or kills chickens before the game.

Then, on a psychological level, you have the black magic practitioner, whose mind is filled with dark thoughts for extended periods of time while he concentrates on doing ill to others. If you concentrate on negativity concerning anything with intensity for huge chunks of time, you're health will diminish. If your victim doesn't know or care that you don't like him, it won't effect him in the least.

Here's proof.

Studies have been done showing that, a person who performs a kindness, the recipient of the kindness, and anyone who witnesses the kindness being done, show increases in the serotonin (anti-depression) levels in their brains, and show increases in disease-fighting white blood cells. This pretty much covers both mental health and physical health.

So, if someone puts an evil spell on you and you are being kind to many people, the spell will have no effect. Your healthy-cell count will be through the roof.

Of course, the opposite occurs as well. Perform cruel acts and your serotonin levels and white blood cells will decrease and over time will have deleterious effects. Insanity and a diseased-ravaged body are not out of the question for evil-doers, therefore.

So, the spell-casters from the dark side have more to lose then the do-gooders who had the spell cast on them.

My advice to the dark side? Keep up on the new science before you all kill yourselves...or not:)

The 'helper's high' could help you live a longer, healthier life.

Linking Kindness and Health

In a paper published earlier this year, Post describes the biological underpinnings of stress -- and how altruism can be the antidote. This connection was discovered inadvertently in 1956, when a team of Cornell University researchers began following 427 married women with children. They assumed that the housewives with more children would be under greater stress and die earlier than women with few children

"Surprisingly, they found that numbers of children, education, class, and work status did not affect longevity," writes Post. After following these women for 30 years, researchers found that 52% of those who did not volunteer had experienced a major illness -- compared with 36% who did volunteer.

Two large studies found that older adults who volunteered reaped benefits in their health and well-being. Those who volunteered were living longer than nonvolunteers. Another large study found a 44% reduction in early death among those who volunteered a lot -- a greater effect than exercising four times a week, Post reports.

In the 1990s, one famous study examined personal essays written by nuns in the 1930s. Researchers found that nuns who expressed the most positive emotions were living about 10 years longer than those who expressed the fewest such emotions.

The Science of Altruism

When we engage in good deeds, we reduce our own stress -- including the physiological changes that occur when we're stressed. During this stress response, hormones like cortisol are released, and our heart and breathing rates increase -- the "fight or flight" response.

If this stress response remains "turned on" for an extended period, the immune and cardiovascular systems are adversely affected -- weakening the body's defenses, making it more susceptible to abnormal cellular changes, Post explains. These changes can ultimately lead to a downward spiral -- abnormal cellular changes that cause premature aging.

"Studies of telomeres -- the end-caps of our genes -- show that long-term stress can shorten those end-caps, and shortened end-caps are linked with early death," he tells WebMD. "These studies indicate that we're dealing with something that's extremely powerful. Ultimately, the process of cultivating a positive emotional state through pro-social behaviors -- being generous -- may lengthen your life."

Altruistic emotions -- the "helper's high" -- seem to gain dominance over the stress response, Post explains. The actual physiological responses of the helper's high have not yet been scientifically studied. However, a few small studies point to lowered stress response and improved immunity (higher levels of protective antibodies) when one is feeling empathy and love.

In one study, older adults who volunteered to give massage to infants had lowered stress hormones. In another study, students were simply asked to watch a film of Mother Teresa's work with the poor in Calcutta. They had significant increases in protective antibodies associated with improved immunity -- and antibody levels remained high for an hour afterward. Students who watched a more neutral film didn't have changes in antibody levels. "Thus, 'dwelling on love' strengthened the immune system," writes Post.

Compassion in the Brain

...Brain chemicals also enter into this picture of altruism. A recent study has identified high levels of the "bonding" hormone oxytocin in people who are very generous toward others. Oxytocin is the hormone best known for its role in preparing mothers for motherhood. Studies have also shown that this hormone helps both men and women establish trusting relationships.

The Evolution of Kindness

"Humans have evolved to be caring and helpful to those around us, largely to ensure our survival," says Post. "In Darwin's Descent of Man, he mentions survival of the fittest only twice. He mentions benevolence 99 times."

..."If it is evolutionarily beneficial for human beings to benefit from social support, you would expect that evolution would provide the species with the capacity to provide social support," he tells WebMD. "This is where the human capacity for altruism may come from."

The Impact of Genetics and Environment

An interplay of our genetics and our environment - especially in our early years - will play into whether we develop into altruistic individuals.

...He's referring to a small study published recently, which looked at oxytocin levels in children's urine while they interacted with their parents. One group was composed of orphans who had spent the first 16 months of life in overseas orphanages - neglected before being adopted by U.S. families. The other group of kids had been raised in stable, caring homes during their earliest years.

The adopted orphans had produced lower levels of urinary oxytocin after being with their mothers, compared with children raised in nurturing homes since birth. "This may be a clue to a 'window of opportunity' in children's development, that those who grow up to be empathic, caring, and more altruistic in later life were nurtured more in their earlier years,"

The Healing Hormone

Indeed, oxytocin may be connected to both physical and emotional well-being, says Fricchione. "Oxytocin is the mediator of what has been called the 'tend-mend' response, as opposed to the 'fight-flight' response to stress. When you're altruistic and touching people in a positive way, lending a helping hand, your oxytocin level goes up - and that relieves your own stress."

In one animal study, researchers looked at the numerous effects that oxytocin can produce in lab rats -- lower blood pressure, lower levels of stress hormones, and an overall calming effect.Altruistic behavior may also trigger the brain's reward circuitry -- the 'feel-good' chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, and perhaps even a morphine-like chemical the body naturally produces, Fricchione explains. "If altruistic behavior plugs into that reward circuitry, it will have the potential to reduce the stress response. And if the altruistic behavior continues to be rewarding, it will be reinforced."

"All the great spiritual traditions and the field of positive psychology are emphatic on this point -- that the best way to get rid of bitterness, anger, rage, jealousy is to do unto others in a positive way," Post tells WebMD. "It's as though you somehow have to cast out negative emotions that are clearly associated with stress -- cast them out with the help of positive emotions."

STUDIES TO BEGIN INTO THE POSSIBILITY OF OTHER DIMENSIONS

The detection of extra dimensions beyond the familiar four—the three dimensions of space and one of time—would be among the most earth-shattering discoveries in the history of physics.

Now scientists at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill., are designing a new experiment that would investigate tantalizing hints that extra dimensions may indeed exist.

Last year researchers involved in Fermilab's MiniBooNE study, which detects elusive subatomic particles called neutrinos, announced that they had found a surprising anomaly. Neutrinos, which have no charge and very little mass, form out of nuclear reactions and particle decays. They come in three types, called flavors—electron, muon and tau—and oscillate wildly from one flavor to another as they travel along. While observing a beam of muon neutrinos generated by one of Fermilab's particle accelerators, the MiniBooNE researchers found that an unexpectedly high number of the particles in the low-energy range (below 475 million electron volts) had transformed into electron neutrinos. After a year of analysis, the investigators have failed to come up with a conventional explanation for this so-called low-energy excess. The mystery has focused attention on an intriguing and very unconventional hypothesis: a fourth kind of neutrino may be bouncing in and out of extra dimensions.

String theorists, who seek to unify the laws of gravity with those of quantum mechanics, have long predicted the existence of extra dimensions. Some physicists have proposed that nearly all the particles in our universe may be confined to a four-dimensional "brane" embedded within a 10-dimensional "bulk." But a putative particle called the sterile neutrino, which interacts with other particles only through gravity, would be able to travel in and out of the brane, taking shortcuts through the extra dimensions.

In 2005 Heinrich Päs, now at the University of Dortmund in Germany, Sandip Pakvasa of the University of Hawaii and Thomas J. Weiler of Vanderbilt University predicted that the extradimensional peregrinations of sterile neutrinos would increase the probability of flavor oscillations at low energies—exactly the result found at MiniBooNE two years later.

Energized by the prospect of discovering new laws of physics, the MiniBooNE team soon proposed a follow-up experiment called MicroBooNE that could test the sterile neutrino hypothesis. The new detector, a cryogenic tank filled with 170 tons of liquid argon, would be able to detect low-energy particles with much greater precision than its predecessor could. A particle emerging from a neutrino interaction would ionize the argon atoms in its path, inducing currents in arrays of wires at the perimeter of the tank. Scientists could then pinpoint the trajectory of the particle, allowing them to better distinguish between electron neutrino interactions and other events and thus determine whether there really is an excess of oscillations at low energies.

Estimated to cost about $15 million, the MicroBooNE tank would be located near the MiniBooNE detector at Fermilab so that it could observe the same beam of neutrinos. This past June the lab's physics advisory committee approved the design phase for the project; if all goes well, the detector could begin operating as soon as 2011.

Researchers hope that MicroBooNE will lead to the development of much larger detectors, containing hundreds of thousands of tons of liquid argon in tanks as big as sports arenas. Such facilities could search for other hypothesized phenomena such as the extremely rare decay of protons. "It's a fantastic new technology," says Bonnie Fleming, a physicist at Yale University and spokesperson for MicroBooNE. "And it's crucial for taking the next step in physics."

Earliest reference describes Christ as 'magician'

Bowl dated between late 2nd century B.C. and the early 1st century A.D.

A team of scientists led by renowned French marine archaeologist Franck Goddio recently announced that they have found a bowl, dating to between the late 2nd century B.C. and the early 1st century A.D., that is engraved with what they believe could be the world's first known reference to Christ.

If the word "Christ" refers to the Biblical Jesus Christ, as is speculated, then the discovery may provide evidence that Christianity and paganism at times intertwined in the ancient world.
The full engraving on the bowl reads, "DIA CHRSTOU O GOISTAIS," which has been interpreted by the excavation team to mean either, "by Christ the magician" or, "the magician by Christ."

"It could very well be a reference to Jesus Christ, in that he was once the primary exponent of white magic," Goddio, co-founder of the Oxford Center of Maritime Archaeology, said.
He and his colleagues found the object during an excavation of the underwater ruins of Alexandria's ancient great harbor. The Egyptian site also includes the now submerged island of Antirhodos, where Cleopatra's palace may have been located.

Both Goddio and Egyptologist David Fabre, a member of the European Institute of Submarine Archaeology, think a "magus" could have practiced fortune telling rituals using the bowl.
The Book of Matthew refers to "wisemen," or Magi, believed to have been prevalent in the ancient world.

Fabre concluded, "It should be remembered that in Alexandria, paganism, Judaism and Christianity never evolved in isolation. All of these forms of religion (evolved) magical practices that seduced both the humble members of the population and the most well-off classes."
"It was in Alexandria where new religious constructions were made to propose solutions to the problem of man, of God's world," he added. "Cults of Isis, mysteries of Mithra, and early Christianity bear witness to this."

The bowl is currently on public display in the exhibit "Egypt's Sunken Treasures" at the Matadero Cultural Center in Madrid, Spain, until November 15.

The ecological risks and health effects of a bright night are becoming more apparent

The night is not what it was. Once, the Earth was cast perpetually half in shadow. Man and beast slept beneath inky skies, dotted with glittering stars. Then came fire, the candle, and the light bulb, gradually drawing back the curtain of darkness and giving us unprecedented control over our lives.But a brighter world, it is becoming increasingly clear, has its drawbacks.

A study released last month finding that breast cancer is nearly twice as common in brightly lit communities as in dark ones only added to a growing body of evidence that artificial light threatens not just stargazing but also public health, wildlife, and possibly even safety.

Motivated by such trends, more than two dozen cities worldwide will go dim on March 29 in an hourlong demonstration. At 8 p.m. local time, Atlanta's and Chicago's tallest towers, the Phoenix Suns' arena, and San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge will join many other sites in turning off their lights. According to the World Wildlife Fund, which is organizing the event, an estimated 2.2 million Australians switched off their lights or took other action during "Earth Hour" last year in Sydney, briefly reducing that city's energy use by more than 10 percent.

People who are working while others are stargazing may face the greatest risks. Hormonal disturbances triggered by nighttime exposure to white or bluish light can disrupt circadian rhythms and fuel the growth of tumors, experiments show.

Two decades of research indicate that women who work night shifts have unusually high rates of breast cancer, and some data suggest a parallel effect on male workers' prostate cancer rates.

Last December, a unit of the World Health Organization deemed shift work a probable human carcinogen.Yet light and cancer may be even more fundamentally linked. In last month's study, a team that included Richard Stevens, the University of Connecticut Health Center epidemiologist who first proposed the connection, compared satellite images of Israel at night with maps showing where cancers are most common. Its analysis suggests that 73 percent more breast cancers occur in the country's brightest communities than in its darkest.

In this experiment it's important to keep in mind that: Your thoughts create your emotions, and not the other way around. You can't create a feeling without first having a thought that preceeds it. The thought is the boss. This is a fact.

Realize that your thoughts are like toys for grown-ups. Emotion is secondary, as research shows. It's all about your thoughts. You will feel emotion in concordance with your thoughts. Even a "state of mind" or an "event" is nothing more then a conglomerate of thoughts. They are simply thoughts stacked one on top of the other and you are the one doing the stacking. Any problem that you are having in your life can be fixed by rearranging your toys.

Rearrange your thoughts in ways that bring you contentment, as far as possible. For example, if you want to feel, let's say, contentment, then first you have to recollect that feeling. Thinking about the feeling and how it feels, or remembering a time when you felt contentment will invoke the feeling. Now, hold that feeling. It isn't easy to hold it for more then a brief period.

Honestly, it could take hundreds of trys before you can hold the feeling for a reasonable amough of time. That's normal. .

Your mind likes these games. Thought toys are a special and powerful birthday present to you. They are what your entire world consists of, literally.

Remote viewing was researched in response to the fact that the Soviet Union was engaged in large scale research into psychotronic applications phenomena. The national security implications of failure to match a technological breakthrough by the Soviets is obvious. In this respect, the remote viewing research was a product of the Cold War, and is analogous to myriad other projects.

Initial research was carried out at the very prestigious Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Certain psychically-gifted individuals were able to describe distant locations, often with amazing accuracy.

With this fact established, the military/intelligence community approved further funding. Research continued, but the main effort soon switched to development (applications), based on two key findings. First, remote viewing ability is latent in nearly all humans. Second, it is possible to teach ordinary people to perform remote viewing.

Groups of students recruited form the ranks of the funding client agencies were trained at SRI. Their mission was to gather data, using remote viewing, regarding targets of special interest to the client agencies. Usually, these were targets inside the Soviet Union that had resisted the standard intelligence gathering techniques.

The 15% accuracy cited in recent public statements on behalf of the CIA is the baseline which ordinary non-gifted and untrained persons often do achieve. This figure was identified very early in the SRI research phase. The minimum accuracy needed by the clients was 65%. In the later stages of the development (training) part of the effort, this accuracy level was achieved and often consistently exceeded.

Throughout the period of my personal involvement (1972-1988), oversight and monitoring teams from the client agencies were in constant attendance. These teams consisted of multi-discipline scientific professionals, some being leaders of their disciplines, and drawn from just about every scientific field. Over the years, representatives of these teams were rotated, with replacements coming in.

During the sixteen-year time span involved, approximately 500 representatives of these oversight teams identified flaws and strengths in the effort. With this intense scrutiny, the program continued to be approved, tested, and ultimately utilized by testing various kinds of experimental and real-time applications. Thus, it seems at variance with the oversight committees' facts that the CIA suggests that remote viewing was "unpromising." But, as is well known, there are various levels to all games.

Per the definition used by the client military and intelligence agencies, and as I identified it at SRI, developed (or trained) remote viewing is a highly-specialized technique. However, the term has been adopted unfairly and incorrectly to include almost any sort of psychic endeavor. This clouds the public mind as to what remote viewing really is.

The key players in the development, training and use of remote viewing remain under the strictest security constraints. They can't talk, but I, at least, honor them for their commitment to the welfare of the Nation even if within a controversial area. Similarly, the documentation supporting the real story is archived under top security wraps.

Ironically, and probably insultingly to the skeptics, the acknowledged "father" of computers, the British mathematical genius Alan Turing, accepted PSI as a fact. In a famous paper he wrote exploring how one could distinguish between talking (at long distance) to a human or to a very advanced computer, Turing invoked Rhine's statistical proof of the existence of ESP. He concluded that this facility, and this one alone, separates the human from the machine, including his hypothetical mega-computer.

BACKGROUND

In 1973, mainstream science, academe and media were unequivocally opposed to any kind of parapsychology or psycho-energetics research. It thus came as something of a cultural shock when the nation's second largest "think tank" undertook that kind of research. The resulting first flap was enormous, largely because of SRI's high scientific standing and its military and intelligence community affiliations.The Jupiter Probe was one of a number of early experiments designed to try to discover the dimensions and extent of human remote sensing faculties. It was felt that radical experiments should be undertaken in the attempt to establish the dimensions of those faculties.

One such radical experiment, the "Jupiter Probe," took place in 1973 at Stanford Research Institute (SRI) under the excellent auspices of Dr. H.E. Puthoff and Mr. Russell Targ (both esteemed physicists) and other competent scientists of the Radio Physics Laboratory.

Abstract - In July 1995 the CIA declassified, and approved for release, documents revealing its sponsorship in the 1970s of a program at Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, CA, to determine whether such phenomena as remote viewing "might have any utility for intelligence collection." Thus began disclosure to the public of a two-decade-plus involvement of the intelligence community in the investigation of so-called parapsychological or psi phenomena. Presented here by the program's Founder and first Director (1972 - 1985) is the early history of the program, including discussion of some of the first, now declassified, results that drove early interest.

On April 17, 1995, President Clinton issued Executive Order Nr. 1995-4-17, entitled Classified National Security Information

As a consequence of the above, although I had founded the program in early 1972, and had acted as its Director until I left in 1985 to head up the Institute for Advanced Studies at Austin (at which point my colleague Ed May assumed responsibility as Director), it was not until 1995 that I found myself for the first time able to utter in a single sentence the connected acronyms CIA/SRI/RV. In this report I discuss the genesis of the program, report on some of the early, now declassified, results that drove early interest, and outline the general direction the program took as it expanded into a multi-year, multi-site, multi-million-dollar effort to determine whether such phenomena as remote viewing "might have any utility for intelligence collection."

Beginnings
　
In early 1972 I was involved in laser research at Stanford Research Institute (now called SRI International) in Menlo Park, CA. At that time I was also circulating a proposal to obtain a small grant for some research in quantum biology. In that proposal I had raised the issue whether physical theory as we knew it was capable of describing life processes, and had suggested some measurements involving plants and lower organisms [3]. This proposal was widely circulated, and a copy was sent to Cleve Backster in New York City who was involved in measuring the electrical activity of plants with standard polygraph equipment. New York artist Ingo Swann chanced to see my proposal during a visit to Backster's lab, and wrote me suggesting that if I were interested in investigating the boundary between the physics of the animate and inanimate.
　
Prior to Swann's visit I arranged for access to a well-shielded magnetometer used in a quark-detection experiment in the Physics Department at Stanford University. During our visit to this laboratory, sprung as a surprise to Swann, he appeared to perturb the operation of the magnetometer, located in a vault below the floor of the building and shielded by mu-metal shielding, an aluminum container, copper shielding and a superconducting shield. As if to add insult to injury, he then went on to "remote view" the interior of the apparatus, rendering by drawing a reasonable facsimile of its rather complex (and heretofore unpublished) construction. It was this latter feat that impressed me perhaps even more than the former, as it also eventually did representatives of the intelligence community. I wrote up these observations and circulated it among my scientific colleagues in draft form of what was eventually published as part of a conference proceedings.

In a few short weeks a pair of visitors showed up at SRI with the above report in hand. Their credentials showed them to be from the CIA. They knew of my previous background as a Naval Intelligence Officer and then civilian employee at the National Security Agency (NSA) several years earlier, and felt they could discuss their concerns with me openly. There was, they told me, increasing concern in the intelligence community about the level of effort in Soviet parapsychology being funded by the Soviet security services; by Western scientific standards the field was considered nonsense by most working scientists. As a result they had been on the lookout for a research laboratory outside of academia that could handle a quiet, low-profile classified investigation, and SRI appeared to fit the bill. They asked if I could arrange an opportunity for them to carry out some simple experiments with Swann, and, if the tests proved satisfactory, would I consider a pilot program along these lines? I agreed to consider this, and arranged for the requested tests.

The tests were simple, the visitors simply hiding objects in a box and asking Swann to attempt to describe the contents. The results generated in these experiments are perhaps captured most eloquently by the following example. In one test Swann said "I see something small, brown and irregular, sort of like a leaf or something that resembles it, except that it seems very much alive, like it's even moving!" The target chosen by one of the visitors turned out to be a small live moth, which indeed did look like a leaf. Although not all responses were quite so precise, nonetheless the integrated results were sufficiently impressive that in short order an eight-month, $49,909 Biofield Measurements Program was negotiated as a pilot study, a laser colleague Russell Targ who had had a long-time interest and involvement in parapsychology joined the program, and the experimental effort was begun in earnest.

Early Remote Viewing Results

During the eight-month pilot study of remote viewing the effort gradually evolved from the remote viewing of symbols and objects in envelopes and boxes, to the remote viewing of local target sites in the San Francisco Bay area, demarked by outbound experimenters sent to the site under strict protocols devised to prevent artifactual results. Later judging of the results were similarly handled by double-blind protocols designed to foil artifactual matching. Since these results have been presented in detail elsewhere, both in the scientific literature and in popular book format, I direct the interested reader to these sources. To summarize, over the years the back-and-forth criticism of protocols, refinement of methods, and successful replication of this type of remote viewing in independent laboratories, has yielded considerable scientific evidence for the reality of the phenomenon.

First, during the collection of data for a formal remote viewing series targeting indoor laboratory apparatus and outdoor locations (a series eventually published in toto in the Proc. IEEE), the CIA contract monitors, ever watchful for possible chicanery, participated as remote viewers themselves in order to critique the protocols. In this role three separate viewers, designated visitors V1 - V3 in the IEEE paper, contributed seven of the 55 viewings, several of striking quality. Reference to the IEEE paper for a comparison of descriptions/drawings to pictures of the associated targets, generated by the contract monitors in their own viewings, leaves little doubt as to why the contract monitors came to the conclusion that there was something to remote viewing (see, for example, Figure 1 herein). As summarized in the Executive Summary of the now-released Final Report of the second year of the program, "The development of this capability at SRI has evolved to the point where visiting CIA personnel with no previous exposure to such concepts have performed well under controlled laboratory conditions (that is, generated target descriptions of sufficiently high quality to permit blind matching of descriptions to targets by independent judges)." What happened next, however, made even these results pale in comparison.

Were the results not promising, the experiment would have stopped at this point. Description of the multistory crane, however, a relatively unusual target item, was taken as indicative of possible target acquisition. Therefore, Phase II was begun, defined by the subject being made "witting" (of the client) by client representatives who introduced themselves to the subject at that point; Phase II also included a second round of experimentation on the Semipalatinsk site with direct participation of client representatives in which further data were obtained and evaluated. As preparation for this phase, client representatives purposely kept themselves blind to all but general knowledge of the target site to minimize the possibility of cueing.

The Phase II effort was focused on the generation of physical data that could be independently verified by other client sources, thus providing a calibration of the process.The end of Phase II gradually evolved into the first part of Phase III, the generation of unverifiable data concerning the Semipalatinsk site not available to the client, but of operational interest nonetheless. Several hours of tape transcript and a notebook of drawings were generated over a two-week period.

The data describing the Semipalatinsk site were evaluated by the sponsor, and are contained in a separate report. In general, several details concerning the salient technology of the Semipalatinsk site appeared to dovetail with data from other sources, and a number of specific large structural elements were correctly described. The results contained noise along with the signal, but were nonetheless clearly differentiated from the chance results that were generated by control subjects in comparison experiments carried out by the COTR."
The above discussion brings us up to the end of 1975.
　
As the program expanded, in only a very few cases could the clients' identities and program tasking be revealed. Examples include a NASA-funded study negotiated early in the program by Russ Targ to determine whether the internal state of an electronic random-number-generator could be detected by RV processes, and a study funded by the Naval Electronics Systems Command to determine whether attempted remote viewing of distant light flashes would induce correlated changes in the viewer's brainwave (EEG) production. For essentially all other projects during my 14-yr. tenure at SRI, however, the identity of the clients and most of the tasking were classified and remain so today. (The exception was the occasional privately-funded study.) We are told, however, that further declassification and release of much of this material is almost certain to occur.

The words threat assessment were often used to describe the program's purpose during its development, especially during the early years. As a result much of the remote-viewing activity was carried out under conditions where ground-truth reality was a priori known or could be determined, such as the description of U.S. facilities and technological developments, the timing of rocket test firings and underground nuclear tests, and the location of individuals and mobile units. And, of course, we were responsive to requests to provide assistance during such events as the loss of an airplane or the taking of hostages, relying on the talents of an increasing cadre of remote-viewer/consultants, some well-known in the field such as Keith Harary, and many who have not surfaced publicly until recently, such as Joe McMoneagle.

Even though the details of the broad range of experiments, some brilliant successes, many total failures, have not yet been released, we have nonetheless been able to publish summaries of what was learned in these studies about the overall characteristics of remote viewing, as in Table 5 of Reference. Furthermore, over the years we were able to address certain questions of scientific interest in a rigorous way and to publish the results in the open literature. Examples include the apparent lack of attenuation of remote viewing due to seawater shielding (submersible experiments), the amplification of RV performance by use of error-correcting coding techniques, and the utility of a technique we call associational remote viewing (ARV) to generate useful predictive information.

America's Psychic Spies warned of similar events beginning in the 1980s including airplanes as weapons of mass destruction and the collapse of buildings. And in one prediction, they may have named one of the 9/11 hijackers

March 14, 2007A report declassified in late February 2007 under the UK's Freedom of Information Act reveals that Britain's Ministry of Defence has been testing psychics. The series of tests took place in a secret location and without any press coverage until a few weeks ago.

British media report that in 2002, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) attempted to get 12 professional psychics to prove their powers, apparently in an effort to determine whether they could offer their services in defense of their country. A Defence Ministry spokesperson has alluded to "remote viewing" in a statement to the press, and that appears to have been the skill for which the researchers were testing. In remote viewing, a person can accurately picture an actual, distant location in his or her mind.

　
　
　
The CIA asked two reviewers to evaluate the studies. One was Ray Hyman, a psychology professor at the University of Oregon and a well-known skeptic. The other was Jessica Utts, a statistics professor at the University of California at Davis and an advocate of parapsychology.

Indeed, the Nature article noted that Utts had participated in some of the studies--which in my mind raises the question of why she was selected to review those same studies.

As we would expect, Hyman and Utts disagreed on how the studies rated. While both agreed that the first "era of research was problematic," Utts said there was "a statistically robust effect," while Hyman noted that "there's no evidence these people have done anything helpful for the government."

So where does this leave us? Let's look more closely at the studies. Utts said the "psychics" were accurate about 15% of the time when they were helping the CIA. Fifteeen percent? Is this supposed to convince us to pay them to help the United States government? Utts says she thinks "they would be effective if used in conjunction with other intelligence." My intelligence tells me that 15% accuracy isn't much help no matter what it's used in conjunction with--that's an 85% failure rate! So 85% of the time, spies would be wasting their time and resources on incorrect information. We're supposed to be happy with that? And that's presuming she's right about the 15%.

In one particular study on remote viewing, the "psychics" scored above the result expected from chance by getting the right answer approximately 33% of the time when there were four choices, which Science News characterized as "a moderate increase over chance." But the judgment of success was determined by the project's director, who rated the similarity of each response to the target display and to other randomly chosen pictures. Hyman argued that these studies offer no insight as to why the scoring is above chance--it's just assumed that it must be psychic ability. He also noted that the accuracy ratings should have been done by independent judges--not the project director--and that none of the studies have yet undergone peer review. In other words, there were severe methodological flaws in those studies that did seem to show a hint of something. Indeed, a former CIA technical director who monitored these programs said on Nightline that he wasn't aware of any significant results from the "psychics."

Recently we learned from Gus Russo that the super-secretive National Security Agency (NSA) may still be in the psychic spying business.Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell, and other intelligence officials, have stated for the record that foreign intelligence collection efforts, notably from Russia and China, are approaching cold war levels. Although many older Americans will recall the spy versus spy antics of the Soviet dominated era, many will not be familiar with the strangeness that penetrated American intelligence institutions in response to tales of weird science coming from the other side.
　
　
Then in 1972 what was to become a long-term research effort was initiated by physicists Harold Puthoff and Russell Targ, who had previously conducted some parapsychological research at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI). The pair approached the CIA with the assertion that they had found several psychics they felt could produce results. Their best example was Ingo Swann who made an impression with his seeming ability to effect a highly shielded magnetometer.

Changes in the magnetometer coincided with Swann's own changes in consciousness. They later involved another psychic, Pat Price, in the successful demonstration of remote viewing, a form of clairvoyance. A review in 1976 noted the ambiguous nature of the remote view tests, and led to the relationship with SRI being dropped and the employment of Price as an independent agent. Unfortunately, he died of a heart attack a short time later, and the research momentarily came to a halt.

Early Background

The study of psychic phenomena by major scientists started in the mid-nineteenth century; early researchers included Michael Faraday, Alfred Russel Wallace, and William Crookes. Their work predominently involved carrying out focused experimental tests on specific individuals who were thought to be psychically gifted. Reports of apparently successful tests were met with much skepticism from the scientific community. Later, in the 1930s, J. B. Rhine expanded the study of paranormal performance into larger populations, by using standard experimental protocols with unselected human subjects. But, as with the earlier studies, Rhine was reluctant to publicize this work too early, because of the fear of criticism from mainstream scientists[12].
In the early 1970s, Harold Puthoff and Russell Targ joined the Electronics and Bioengineering Laboratory at Stanford Research Institute (SRI). In addition to their mainstream scientific research work on quantum mechanics and laser physics, they initiated several studies of the paranormal. These were supported with funding from the Parapsychology Foundation[2] and the newly-formed Institute of Noetic Sciences.

Their research approach tended mainly towards studying alleged psychics, as had been the case with the studies in the nineteenth century. The initial goal of these studies was to try and determine, by technical means, how the ESP processes and communication channels worked. This approach differed from other ESP-related research at the time, which was following the tradition of J. B. Rhine by primarily emphasizing proof-of-existence data-gathering from larger populations of general human subject participants[

The Stargate Program

The Stargate Project developed a set of protocols meant to make clairvoyance and out-of-body research more scientific and minimize inaccuracies. As a result, the term "remote viewing" emerged as a short hand reference for this more structured approach to clairvoyant research. The Stargate Project was considered a last resort by the American intelligence community and "viewers" would only be given assignments after all other avenues had been exhausted. At its peak, the Stargate Project is believed to have had as many as 22 viewers and 14 laboratories dedicated to psychic research.

In 1995, control of the Stargate Project was transferred to the CIA, at which point a retrospective analysis of the Stargate Project’s past results was ordered. Mysteriously, on June 30, 1995, the day before this review was set to be presented, the CIA shut down the program.

The Stargate Program's Results

The analysis conducted by Professor Jessica Utts revealed that even though many of the reports filed by the Stargate Project clairvoyants contained much useless and irrelevant information, the more gifted participants in the program were predicting correctly at a 5% to 15% rate above chance. This meant that the Stargate Project was, in fact, producing concrete useable intelligence information. Like any intelligence gathering operation, it was just a matter of knowing how to interpret and use the information.

As a child in 1952, Jack Sarfatti claims to have received phone calls from the mechanical voice of a conscious computer aboard a spaceship, recruiting him along with 400 others for some special project. These calls have similarities to the mechanical voice which talked to Andrijah Puharich via his tape recorder. Sarfatti was later associated with Puharich. Puharich first contacts The Nine a group of channeled being via a medium.

In 1952, during the CIA's MK-ULTRA mind control program, John Lilly briefed the intelligence community on his work to map out the brains of animals using implanted electrodes.

In early 1972, psychic Ingo Swann heard of Hal Puthoff's research proposal through Cleve Backster. According to Swann, Backster maintained his intelligence connections, and Backster reported that the CIA was interested in his experiments.

Monroe Institute. Founded and directed by Robert Monroe from 1974 until his death in1995.
Had classified contracts with the U.S. Army Intelligence & Security Command (INSCOM) on orders by Gen. Albert Stubblebine. The Institute studied their hemi-synch techniques to see if they could enhance soldiers' performance and concentration. (Emerson, Steven, Secret Warriors, G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1988, pg 103-4)

The primary area of research at the Monroe Institute involves using a binaural beat to cause different psychological effects. A binaural beat is created by using stereo headphones with each speaker emitting a slightly different frequency.

The Monroe Institute has done research on accelerated learning and foreign language learning through the use of altered states of consciousness for the C.I.A. and other government organizations.

The Monroe Institute trained the government viewers from Ft. Meade in out of body experiences. Courtney Brown also went through this training, which involves using the Institute's Hemisync tapes. These tapes, which work by using a binural beat to entrain brain waves, caused Brown to feel that he left his body and communicated with aliens. [Brown, Courtney, Cosmic Voyage, Dutton, 1996]

Christopher Bird Presented a paper on dowsing and the psychic ability of plants at the "Mind Over Matter" conference at Penn State University, late January, 1977, organized by Ira Einhorn. Other attendees included Andrija Puharichand Thomas Bearden. (Levy, pg 189)
Soon afterwards, Einhorn and the psychic mafia focused their attention on ELF mind control. (Levy, pg 190). He suggests that his murder charge could have been a set-up by the CIA or KGB for his interest in activities by America and Russia in the areas of psychic warfare, Tesla technology, and mind control. (Levy, pg 242) Puharich says that Einhorn's work wasn't important enough to elicit such a reaction. (Levy, pg 308) The likelihood is that Einhorn, like many of the individuals involved in COINTELPRO, was merely a "useful idiot," who was as manipulated as those he sought to manipulate.

Einhorn led seminars at the Esalen Institute and was involved with the Physics/Consciousness Research Group. He reportedly worked with Congressman Charlie Rose, a large supporter of psychic studies, on classified projects.

In May 1982, Elisabeth and Russell Targ held a workshop on psychic phenomena for twenty-five professionals. This was part of a program with Stanislav Grof, who was studying non-chemical alternatives for altered states of consciousness. The Targs goal was to show that psychic experiences did not require an altered state. (Targ, Russell and Harary, Keith, Mind Race, Villard Books, 1984, pg 99)
Grof served briefly as the branch chief of the operational unit of Star Gate from around 1982 or 83 until he resigned in summer of 1993

Center Lane was the codename for the operational unit of the remote-viewing program, redesignated from Grill Flame in late 1983.

Control of the unit shifted from INSCOM's operation group to the more direct control of Albert Stubblebine. The unit was known as INSCOM Center Lane Project (ICLP). (Schnabel, Jim, Remote Viewers: The Secret History of America's Psychic Spies, Dell, 1997, pg 280)

In late 1983, four more individuals were recruited to Center Lane: Captain Ed Dames, Captain Bill Ray (counterintelligence specialist), Captain Paul Smith, and Charlene Cavanaugh (civilian analyst with INSCOM). These four began a training program, which began at The Monroe Institute and concluded with personal training with Ingo Swann. (Schnabel, 1997, pg 292-3)

After Gen. Stubblebine's retirement in 1984, Center Lane was completely without support in the Army. Jack Vorona arranged for the unit to be transferred directly to the DIA's Scientific and Technical Intelligence Directorate when Army funding ran out in late 1985, at which time it was redesignated Sun Streak. Until that time, the unit was given no official taskings. (Schnabel, 1997, pg 319)

CENTER LANE started when Ingo Swann at SRI came across a breakthrough in his techniques in 1983. He developed a training program and trained six military officers, including Ed Dames, over a period of six months. After finishing the training in late 1983, the viewers returned and started applying their knowledge. The unit was renamed CENTER LANE, with Dames as the operations and training officer.

Remote viewing was researched in response to the fact that the Soviet Union was engaged in large scale research into psychotronic applications phenomena. The national security implications of failure to match a technological breakthrough by the Soviets is obvious. In this respect, the remote viewing research was a product of the Cold War, and is analogous to myriad other projects.

Initial research was carried out at the very prestigious Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Certain psychically-gifted individuals were able to describe distant locations, often with amazing accuracy.

With this fact established, the military/intelligence community approved further funding. Research continued, but the main effort soon switched to development (applications), based on two key findings. First, remote viewing ability is latent in nearly all humans. Second, it is possible to teach ordinary people to perform remote viewing.

Groups of students recruited form the ranks of the funding client agencies were trained at SRI. Their mission was to gather data, using remote viewing, regarding targets of special interest to the client agencies. Usually, these were targets inside the Soviet Union that had resisted the standard intelligence gathering techniques.

The 15% accuracy cited in recent public statements on behalf of the CIA is the baseline which ordinary non-gifted and untrained persons often do achieve. This figure was identified very early in the SRI research phase. The minimum accuracy needed by the clients was 65%. In the later stages of the development (training) part of the effort, this accuracy level was achieved and often consistently exceeded.

Throughout the period of my personal involvement (1972-1988), oversight and monitoring teams from the client agencies were in constant attendance. These teams consisted of multi-discipline scientific professionals, some being leaders of their disciplines, and drawn from just about every scientific field. Over the years, representatives of these teams were rotated, with replacements coming in.

During the sixteen-year time span involved, approximately 500 representatives of these oversight teams identified flaws and strengths in the effort. With this intense scrutiny, the program continued to be approved, tested, and ultimately utilized by testing various kinds of experimental and real-time applications. Thus, it seems at variance with the oversight committees' facts that the CIA suggests that remote viewing was "unpromising." But, as is well known, there are various levels to all games.

Per the definition used by the client military and intelligence agencies, and as I identified it at SRI, developed (or trained) remote viewing is a highly-specialized technique. However, the term has been adopted unfairly and incorrectly to include almost any sort of psychic endeavor. This clouds the public mind as to what remote viewing really is.

The key players in the development, training and use of remote viewing remain under the strictest security constraints. They can't talk, but I, at least, honor them for their commitment to the welfare of the Nation even if within a controversial area. Similarly, the documentation supporting the real story is archived under top security wraps.

Ironically, and probably insultingly to the skeptics, the acknowledged "father" of computers, the British mathematical genius Alan Turing, accepted PSI as a fact. In a famous paper he wrote exploring how one could distinguish between talking (at long distance) to a human or to a very advanced computer, Turing invoked Rhine's statistical proof of the existence of ESP. He concluded that this facility, and this one alone, separates the human from the machine, including his hypothetical mega-computer.

BACKGROUND

In 1973, mainstream science, academe and media were unequivocally opposed to any kind of parapsychology or psycho-energetics research. It thus came as something of a cultural shock when the nation's second largest "think tank" undertook that kind of research. The resulting first flap was enormous, largely because of SRI's high scientific standing and its military and intelligence community affiliations.The Jupiter Probe was one of a number of early experiments designed to try to discover the dimensions and extent of human remote sensing faculties. It was felt that radical experiments should be undertaken in the attempt to establish the dimensions of those faculties.

One such radical experiment, the "Jupiter Probe," took place in 1973 at Stanford Research Institute (SRI) under the excellent auspices of Dr. H.E. Puthoff and Mr. Russell Targ (both esteemed physicists) and other competent scientists of the Radio Physics Laboratory.

Beneath that is the surface which I saw was, well, it looked like shifting sands made out of some sort of slippery granulated stuff. And off in the distance, I guess, to the East was a very high mountain chain 30,000 feet or so, quite large mountains. I feel these crystals will probably bounce radio waves. They're that type.
